Montero Family, Washed Geisha - Costa Rica, Tarrazu

We’ve bought coffee from Montero's since we started in 2018. Back then their Geisha trees were still too young to give a proper harvest, but we asked them to give us a call as soon as it was ready. In 2019 we got the call and the first samples, and purchased the very first Geishas from the Montero’s. We’ve kept it going ever since, buying their main Catuai crop, and a washed and a natural processed Geisha. The Geisha tree is delicate and needs much more attention than their Catuai trees, all while only giving about half the yield. The extra effort and higher price is worth it though, as the coffee has a delicate complexity and balance of flavour, offering both delicate white floral notes and a deep, sugary sweetness. Every year we buy the Montero’s main harvest of Catuai, as well as their very limited Geisha lots, one washed and one natural. The Catuai is a lovely everyday coffee, whereas the Geishas are more elegant and rare, an exceptional coffee best enjoyed as a special treat, maybe at a moment of celebration, or better yet together with a friend.
