In the southern parts of Ethiopia, specifically the Guji region, is where you’ll find the Benti Nenka processing station. The cooperative has named the station after the nearby village, and with coffee production deeply rooted in the community culture, the producing members take great pride in their coffee cultivation. The cherries are meticulously handpicked to ensure only the perfectly ripe cherries and highest quality beans are a part of the finished product. Following the selection and sorting, the cherries are fermented and dried in the sun on raised beds, with regular turning of the cherries for even drying. Once the cherries are dried to the desired moisture level, they are stored in a cool and dry facility, resting for a few weeks before being hulled and milled to be ready for export.
Benti Nenka is particularly known for its natural processed lots, much like this one, they are usually bright and juicy with a pronounced deep sweetness and creamy mouthfeel.
Grown at a stunning 2300 meters above sea level, the coffee cherries have had time to slowly mature and ripen, and develop more sugars and proteins, making the end result delightfully fruity and complex.
