The area of Espírito Santo is known for both their high quality and how difficult it is to grow coffee there. In Brazil the average farm is huge, with machines used for harvesting. The high humidity climate in Espírito Santo makes the cherries ripen at very different rates, making handpicking a necessity. This is common in the other countries we work with, but a big contrast in Brazil. The extra effort makes for an extraordinary example of just how great Brazilian coffee can be, but the higher cost of production can be tough for producers to motivate in an economy where coffee prices sometimes hit record lows. Jeverson on the other hand has set his goal on to deliver quality over quantity ever since he started growing coffee with his uncle Pedro. Today he owns his own small farm, Sitio Sombra do Cedro, which he runs with his family.
