Just a few years ago all Ethiopian coffee was traded through the national commodity exchange. That meant longer supply chains with more links between producers and roasteries and less control for the folks growing coffee. This changed in 2017 when the market opened up for smallholder farmers to sell their produce through on their own. More traceability, less go-betweens, more control and more money to the producer. Much better! Bekele Legie grows his coffee on a piece of land he got from his father in 2008 and since then he’s been praised as a model farmer in his village in the Konga district. He now grows, processes and exports his own coffee and we’re so happy to have gotten our hands on some to share with you.
Whole coffee beans roasted for filter.
